Arthur Weil (rabbi)

Arthur Weil (born March 21, 1880 in Hatten , † June 23, 1959 in Riehen ) was a French rabbi .

Life

Weil graduated from high school in Hatten and in 1906 obtained the rabbi diploma from the Orthodox rabbinical seminary in Berlin . In 1907 he received his doctorate in Orientalia and Philosophy at the University of Strasbourg . From 1908 to 1911 he worked as a religion teacher at the parish of Rue Cadet in Paris. From 1912 to 1925 he was director of the religious school of the Kultusgemeinde Strasbourg , at the same time he worked as a rabbi in Bischheim from 1915 to 1925. From 1926 to 1956, Weil was rabbi of the Basel Israelite community . In 1927 the strictly orthodox Israelite Religious Society of Basel split off. In the same year he founded the youth association Emuna Basel.
