Arthur Edler von Schwertführer (born February 3, 1891 in Leoben , Styria , Austria-Hungary , † March 13, 1967 in Wiesbaden , Germany ) was an Austrian cameraman for German film.

Life

The son of a major general retired from Styria. D. had initially continued the family tradition and served as an air officer at a young age. During this time he also tried his hand at photography for the first time and provided his state clients with surveying and series photographs. When a large number of professional officers had to be released into private life after the end of the First World War , Schwertführer attended the Higher Technical School for Photography in Munich from 1919 and learned everything about photo chemistry and photo technology. This was followed by a further two and a half year training as a portrait photographer and cinema technician.

Schwertführer gained his first practical experience in the film business at the beginning of the 1920s in a photocopier, a little later he photographed his first feature film in Munich. Arthur von Schwertführer was behind the camera in only a few feature films, and despite a number of well-known directors (including Kurt Bernhardt , Jaap Speyer and Géza von Bolváry ), none of these productions are of above-average importance.

Shortly after the National Socialists came to power, the cameraman left the industry and moved to the cine camera manufacturer Eugen Bauer GmbH as sales manager . In 1940, the nearly 50-year-old swordsman had himself reactivated and served as a major in the Air Force until the end of the war. After his release from captivity, Arthur von Schwertführer opened his own studio for color photography and began making documentaries.
