Artur Brückmann

Artur Brückmann (born October 8, 1928 in Singen (Hohentwiel) ; † May 15, 2009 in Davos , Switzerland ) was a German translator .

Brückmann's youth were shaped by the Second World War . After his wedding, he studied German and philosophy in Basel and Zurich . After his doctorate as Dr. phil. he settled with his family in Davos , where he taught German and philosophy at the local grammar school .

After retiring from professional life for health reasons, Brückmann began translating Plautus comedies from Latin into German in the mid-1980s . He was able to complete six translations: Asinaria , Epidicus , Mercator , Mostellaria , Pseudolus and Truculentus .

Brückmann died on May 15, 2009 after a long illness, leaving behind a wife and two sons.
