Artur Pankratz

Artur Pankratz (born July 1, 1879 or 1893 in Bromberg ; † September 5, 1975 in Elmshorn ) was a German socialist and member of the Polish Sejm from 1922 to 1930.

Life

Pankratz studied literature and oriental studies at the university in Halle . During the First World War he fought in the German army on the French and Turkish fronts. After the war he was chairman of the German Social Democratic Party in Poland (DSPP), editor of the left-wing Volkszeitung and city councilor in the now Polish city of Bydgoszcz. In 1919/20 he published the German-Pola Esperantisto magazine. In 1922 he was elected from the list of the minority bloc (Blok Mniejszości Narodowych) to the Polish Sejm.

Pankratz united all German center-left parties in Poland in the German Socialist Labor Party (DSAP) and was a co-founder of the German Association in Poland . After the attack on Poland , he worked in the Bydgoszcz city council. From 1945 he was a Soviet prisoner of war, from which he returned in 1955.
