Ascalenia echidnias is a butterfly ( moth ) fromthe Chrysopeleiidae family .
features
The moths reach a wingspan of 7 to 10 millimeters. The head, thorax and tegulae are gray-brown, the scales here have light-colored tips. The forewings are gray-brown and speckled with light gray scales at the tips. Two short, indistinct, dark brown strokes belong to the drawing on the wing. The first is 1/3 of the forewing length on the anal fold, the second is in the middle of the wing at 2/3 of the forewing length. A white, obliquely inwardly running costal line and a white obliquely outwardly running tornal line form an indistinct triangle opening downwards at 3/4 of the forewing length. There are some white scales in the apical area. The fringed scales are gray-brown at the apex and gray towards the inner wing edge. The hind wings shine light gray. They are gray-brown on the Costa loader and on the apex. The fringed scales are light gray. The abdomen has a dorsal shine pale brown, the segments are banded gray behind. The anal tuft is white. In the females the seventh segment is ventrally black.
In the males, the uncus is medium-sized, curved and provided with a blunt apex. The valves are narrow at the base and gradually widen towards the middle. The distal part tapers abruptly to a rounded and slightly curved apex. At its widest part there is a triangular process with a rounded tip dorsolaterally. There are some coarse and slightly curved bristles on the inner surface. The apex and the process are ventrally provided with a long, hair-like bristle. There is a long curved bristle at the base. The aedeagus is strong and slightly curved.
In the females, the slit-shaped bulge of the seventh sternite is small and U-shaped. The fold of the sixth sternite is broadly trapezoidal. The ostium is surrounded by two large side shields with a reticulate structure. They taper in the middle and are bent outwards at an acute angle. The ductus bursae is short and runs in several turns. In the middle there is a sclerotized longitudinal ligament, which is particularly pronounced in the direction of the ostium. The corpus bursae is oval and has a reticulate surface. The signa are large and often two-pointed.
