Ascalenia jerichoella is a butterfly ( moth ) fromthe Chrysopeleiidae family .

features

The moths reach a wingspan of 6 millimeters. The head is brown, the lateral scales of the vertex have light-colored tips. The antennae have a brown sheen, in the apical half they are more greyish and slightly saw-shaped. The thorax and tegulae have a dark brown sheen and scales with pale tips. The thorax is lighter behind. The forewings shine dark brown. Two whitish bands belong to the drawing. The first band is irregular and incomplete, it is 1/3 of the fore wing length. The second band is complete and is 2/3 the length of the forewing. It is widest in the middle, there are some brown scales in the middle. The fringed scales are brown at the apex and brownish gray towards the inner wing edge. The hind wings have a light gray sheen, they are more brownish on the Costa loader and towards the apex. The fringed scales are pale ocher gray.

The genital fittings of the males are unknown.

In females, the slit-shaped bulge of the seventh sternite is long and very narrow. The fold is quite flat, the rear edge is slightly curved. The sterigma has the shape of a convex sclerotized plate at the ostium . The sterigma and the bulge are enclosed by two large oval areas that have a reticulate structure. The ductus bursae is long. It is broad at the ostium and tapers towards the corpus bursae . It runs in one and a half turns and is provided with a narrow, sclerotized band. The corpus bursae is egg-shaped and has two horn-shaped signs.

Ascalenia jerichoella is common in Israel .

biology

The biology of the species is unknown. The holotype was collected from the light in May .
