The Asdorfer Weiher nature reserve encompasses a 5.8-hectare wetland in Freudenberg (Siegerland) , between Asdorfer Straße and Plittershagen. The protection was placed on December 18, 2003 by the Lower Landscape Authority of the Siegen-Wittgenstein district .

description

The reserve includes the Asdorfer Weiher with the Weibe River in the eastern part and a swampy silting area in the west. The latter is regularly flooded. Behind the siltation area extends an extensive heather area, which is preserved through extensive use, but is also left to its own devices in part. The small town of Plittershagen lies in the middle of the heather area . The silting zone immediately next to the pond (to the west) is in a pre-forest-like condition ( pioneer vegetation ) and is planted with white willow , alder , meadowsweet , reed grass , marsh marigold and forest ledges , among other things . In this area, women are accompanied by alders, willows and reeds . To the north, there is a forest (mainly spruce ) along the entire protected area . The entire wetland is nourished by rain on the one hand and the Plittersche brook on the other . The purpose of the reserve is to preserve the heathland and the natural fluctuations in water in the silting zone, as well as endangered animals (including fire salamanders ( Salamandra salamandra ), grass snakes ( Natrix natrix )) and plants. From spring to early summer, a toad fence is stretched along Plittershagener Straße, which leads south along the entire protected area, which guides the migrating common toads to the toad tunnels that cross the street.

development

The pond was dammed as a fish pond as early as 1473. At that time there were 10 hectares that were covered with water; today the water covers only a comparatively small part of the area. Today the lake extends about 150 meters from east to west and about 40 meters from north to south. Its dam was used as a railway line for some time, but the railway line has now been closed.
