The Plittersche nature reserve is a nature reserve in the town of Freudenberg in Siegerland (Freudenberg and Plittershagen district ). It lies between the village of Hohenhain and the Asdorfer Weiher , the mouth of the Plittersche stream , which gave the area its name. The 33.2 hectare area was placed under nature protection on December 18, 2003 by the Lower Landscape Authority and the Forestry Office of the Siegen-Wittgenstein district.

The nature reserve extends through a long valley, from the Plittersche springs in Hohenhain, past the places Mausbach and Alte Heide to Plittershagen. In the northeast it borders on the nature reserve Seelbach- und Eulbruchswald and in the south on the nature reserve Asdorfer Weiher. The protected area Plittersche consists of moor-like wetlands , heather meadows and the Plittersche in the center. On the eastern side, the stream is continuously accompanied by forest (coniferous and deciduous forest). The stream is natural and not influenced by human hands. Shortly before Plittershagen, it is still nourished by two streams flowing in from the west.

The lowest point of the nature reserve is 275 m above sea level, the highest 400 m above sea level.

Flora and fauna

At the edge of the protected area lies the forest with various tree species, such as oak (some with a diameter of almost 180 cm), beech , spruce and birch . Plants such as fever clover , narrow-leaved cottongrass , rush , swamp blood-eye , horsetail and white willow are represented in the reserve itself .

On animals there are grass snakes , slow worms and, more rarely, the forest lizard among the reptiles on and in the splitter . Among the amphibians in this area include newt and frog. The arthropods are represented among many others by the blue-winged demoiselle , the quail wheat butterfly and the plantain bear.

Objectives of the protected area

The aim of the protected area is above all to preserve the structural diversity in the area, as well as the threatened and protected animals and plants. Furthermore, the present spruce monocultures are to be converted into natural deciduous forest .
