Ash Is a Robot is a Portuguese rock - group of Setubal , which was founded in the 2012th The band consists of front man Claudio Ánibal, guitarist and bassist Francisco Caetano, guitarist Renato Sousa and drummer Vasco Rydin. The band mixes electronic samples with influences from metalcore and post-hardcore , as well as elements of post-rock . The first, self-titled record was released in 2012 by Hummus Records.

Ash Is a Robot was formed in Setúbal in 2012 and recorded their self-titled debut album that same year. The name is based on a quote from the movie Alien . When Parker realizes that Ash is a robot, he exclaims "Ash Is a Goddamn Robot!"
By 2014 the band played well over 100 concerts, including at the Sziget Festival and the Resurrection Fest . In 2015 Ash Is a Robot released the single Sleep Paralysis and an EP with four acoustic covers. With the EP, Ash Is a Robot went on an almost two-month European tour through England, Holland, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, France and Spain. In 2015 Ash Is a Robot was the opening act for The Color Morale on a European tour and was among other things headlining the “dit is schade!” Festival. Another European tour, which was planned for November 2015, had to be canceled after the first concert in Lisbon after singer Claudio Ánibal suffered a splintered fracture in his ankle during the performance. Some of the European dates were made up for in May 2016 as the “Tres Lunas” tour.
In 2016 the band announced that they would be back in the studio, the first single Schrödinger's Whale featuring Garret Rapp by The Color Morale was released in November 2016. The second album is due to be released in mid-2017.

On their self-titled debut album, the band combines metalcore with post-rock influences and electronic elements. After a few covers, the latest single Schrödinger's Whale shows a development in which Ash Is a Robot is moving away from its roots in post-hardcore. The band names King Crimson , Refused and Converge to Sparta as role models .
