The Ashumet Holly Wildlife Sanctuary is a 45  acres (18.2  hectares ) large protected area in East Falmouth in the state of Massachusetts of the United States . It is administered by the Massachusetts Audubon Society .

Protected area

The heart of the reserve consists of an 8-acre lake. Many plants, some of which are rare, grow there, the diversity of which attracts more than 30 species of dragonflies that find a habitat at the lake. On the area also around 1000 are holly ( English holly ) which gave its name to the reserve and include 65 species. On the north bank of Grassy Pond there is a specimen of the rare Franklinie tree. The area is also an important breeding area for migratory birds such as barn swallows and Baltimore trupials . Visitors can explore the area on 1.5  mi (2.4  km ) of hiking trails.
