Asllan Selmani

Asllan Selmani (born June 10, 1945 in Lojane , Kumanovo , SR Macedonia , Yugoslavia ; † October 3, 2011 ) was an ethnic-Albanian Macedonian scientist, author and politician.

Education and scientific activity

Asllan Selmani attended the primary school in Miratovac ( Preševo municipality ) and then the Zef Lush Marku grammar school in Skopje . He studied geography at the Faculty of Science and Mathematics at the University of Skopje and after completing his studies he worked as a high school geography teacher in Kumanovo and Skopje.

After studying for a postgraduate degree at the Geography Department of the Faculty of Science and Mathematics at the University of Zagreb , he defended his master's thesis there in 1976 under the title Geographical Aspects of Socio-Economic Structures in the Municipality of Kumanovo . In 1982 he defended his doctoral thesis at the Faculty of Geography at the University of Skopje under the title Sociogeographical Processes and Problems in the Debar Municipality, with a special focus on the function of the central location .

From 1979 Selmani taught general geography , mathematical geography and cartography at the Pedagogical Academy "Kliment Ohridski" in Skopje . At the Institute for Geography of the Faculty of Science and Mathematics at the University of Skopje, he was lecturer for environmental protection from 1986 and associate professor for geoecology and the fundamentals of geography from 1995 . Since 2000 he has been a full professor there.

Political career

During the two legislative periods from 1990 to 1998 he was a member of the Democratic Prosperity Party (a party of the Albanian population group) in the Macedonian Parliament. The high point of his political career was the Ministry of Science in Macedonia from 1992 to 1994 and 1996 to 1998 . He was chairman of the Aleanca Demokratike e Shqiptarëve (Democratic Alliance of Albanians) party, founded in 2000 .
