Asriel was a Japanese symphonic metal and ambient project by singer KOKOMI and multi-instrumentalist Keisuke Kurose , which existed from 2006 to 2015.

history

The project started in 2006 as a dojin music project. The name, which reads “as real”, is an allusion to Azrael , an angel in Islam . The two musicians KOKOMI and Keisuke Kurose were members of the dojin music circle LMINA Sound Art's, known in the scene as AZE: LC.

From 2006 to 2008 the duo released various EPs and albums in their own distribution and sold them on the Comiket . In April 2008 Asriel brought the song Metamorphose as a maxi single on the major label 5bp. out. The piece can be heard in the anime version of Monochrome Factor . In the same year, the duo and Kegare Naki Yume wrote the credits for the visual novel 11eyes . In 2009 Asriel Tsuioku no Chikai produced CrossOver for 11eyes and Sequentia for the anime series for the visual novel.

In December 2009, Asriel launched Devil's Lullaby, a maxi CD in a special form, and sold it on Comiket 77. However, sales did not go well due to the CD form, so this version of the maxi CD was withdrawn and later than the regular one CD was reissued.

On March 20, 2015, the duo announced that they would break up Asriel in the summer. It was announced that with Asriel and Asriel Last Live a best-of and live album would be released.

style

Aesthetically, the group oriented itself towards the Gothic Lolita fashion style popular in Japan , which is close to visual kei and is rejected by Japanese Gothic artists such as Kazhiko Kimra. Due to the orientation towards an aesthetic that is close to the black scene , the music is often led under the collective term Gothic Metal .
