The Associação Activismo para a Democracia (also Associação de Activismo para a Democracia , Portuguese for Association of Activism for Democracy , Chinese民主 起動) is a political party in the Macau Special Administrative Region within the People's Republic of China .

history

Since the parliamentary elections in 2005 , the Associação Activismo para a Democracia has taken part in the elections to the Macau Legislative Assembly , but has always remained below one percent of the vote and has never been able to win a place in the Legislative Assembly, despite the organization and its chairman Lee Kin Yun are very well known - due to the continuous participation in the elections to the Legislative Assembly. In the 2017 general election , the Associação Activismo para a Democracia with the name Início Democrática ran .

Election results

The civil society in Macao is rather weak and most residents of Macao draw a pragmatic policy of a policy radical of change. Overall, it can be said that the majority of the population is not interested in politics or democracy . Even the small pro-democracy camp is mostly moderate. Since the Associação Novo Macau has developed into a gathering point for students and young activists since 2014 , this social group has the only appreciable understanding of democracy. The party, which is based on the model of Hong Kong , has even had one MP since the 2017 general election , while the two moderate established Democratic MPs have left the Gen Iniciativa de Desenvolvimento Comunitário de Macau party . Apart from this new young movement, it can be stated that among the few politically interested people and in the pro-democracy camp there is very little potential for radical democratic parties like the Associação Activismo para a Democracia.

Alignment

The party works for a far-reaching democratization of the political system in Macau. This includes, for example, the introduction of universal suffrage for Macau's head of government , who has so far been elected by an election committee without the entirety of the citizens having rights of participation. For the parliamentary elections in 2021 , all seats should be allocated in a direct election . What is taken for granted in other countries is not given in Macau. Out of 33 seats, only 14 seats are directly elected by the people, while seven seats are awarded by the Macau head of government and 12 seats are awarded by electoral committees in so-called functional constituencies. The party also stands up for workers' rights and is against the immigration of workers to Macau, as the young Macau people take the perspective of a job in Macau.

Even if there is the Associação Novo Macau, a party with many students and young activists from 2014 , which is making more direct calls for democratization than a few years ago, the Associação Activismo para a Democracia has been a continuously radical democratic party for many years , which seen the most radical demands formulated and appears accordingly in demonstrations.
