Astou Barro Ndour Gueye (also Astou Barro N'Dour Guèye ; born August 22, 1994 in Dakar ) is a Spanish basketball player of Senegalese origin. It is 1.96 cm tall and is mostly used as a power forward or center .

career

Astou Ndour began playing basketball in her school team in her native Dakar when she was seven. At the age of 13 she moved to Spain , in the youth of CB Islas Canarias , after she was recommended to the club from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria by her compatriot Aminata Diop . She quickly made a name for herself as one of the greatest talents in Spanish basketball and in the 2010/11 season, at the age of only 16, made her debut in the first team of CB Islas Canarias in the Liga Femenina de Baloncesto . During that season she made nine appearances in the first division and five in the Eurocup Women and mostly played for the Canary Islands U-19 team .

In the 2011/12 season Astou Ndour played in the regular team of CB Islas Canarias and ended the year with an average of 9.7 points and seven rebounds per game. In the Eurocup, she led her team with 16.1 points and 10.9 rebounds to the quarter-finals, where they failed at Adana Botaş . However, her sporting breakthrough should come in 2013/14, her team finished third in the regular season of the Spanish championship and reached the playoff for the first time in seven years, but failed in the semifinals at the eventual champions Rivas Ecópolis . Astou Ndour impressed with an average of 17.8 points and 13.2 rebounds and was honored for her outstanding individual achievements as MVP of the season. A little later she was selected in the WNBA Draft in 16th place by the San Antonio Stars . In February of this year, FIBA Europe honored her as the best female junior of 2013 .

In May 2014 she signed a two-year contract with the Turkish top club Fenerbahçe İstanbul .

National team

Astou Ndour acquired Spanish citizenship in June 2011 and waived her Senegalese passport. Already in the summer of this year she was in the squad of the Spaniards for the U-18 European Championship, where her national selection won the bronze medal. She was also part of the Iberians team for the U-19 World Cup, where her team only failed in the final against the United States. In both competitions Astou Ndour was elected to the All-Tournament Team. After she could not take part in a national team competition in 2012 due to an injury, she reached fourth place at the U-19 World Cup in 2013 and was again in the All-Tournament Team. However, Astou Ndour's greatest success at the junior level was at the U-20 European Championship this year. The Spaniards won the tournament with a 59:53 in the final against Italy. She contributed an average of 17.3 points and 9.8 rebounds and ended the EM as MVP and top scorer.

On September 4, 2014 Asou Ndour made her debut in the Spanish senior team in a friendly against Serbia .
