Astra is an American psychedelic and progressive rock band that was formed in San Diego in 2006 .

Band history

Richard Vaughan, Conor Riley and Stuart Sclater have played together since 2001 in the garage and psychedelic rock band Silver Sunshine , which released an album and an EP . When the drummer Iain Sclater left in 2006, the other band members decided to change their style and name.

Brian Ellis and David Hurley soon completed the line-up Astra, who retained their psychedelic rock roots, but were now more oriented towards the progressive rock of the 1970s. By 2012 two albums had been released on Rise Above Records (in Great Britain) and on Metal Blade Records (in the USA). In June 2013, Hurley was replaced by Paul Marrone because he wanted to reorient his career. At the same time the band announced the work on a third album.
