The Astra Peak is a 851 m high mountain on the Fallières coast of Graham Lands on the Antarctic Peninsula . It rises 3 km east of Camp Point and northwest of McMorrin Glacier .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 2013. It is named after the Royal Air Force's motto “ per ardua ad astra ” ( Latin for “steep / difficult to the stars”) in conjunction with the exceptional flight performance of Flight Lieutenant Ron Lord, the In 1959 the British Antarctic Survey crew stationed on Horseshoe Island had flown to Deception Island in bad weather .
