Atanasia Ionescu

Atanasia Ionescu , after marriage Atanasia Albu , (born March 19, 1935 in Ploieşti ; † 1990 ) was a Romanian gymnast .

Ionescu was part of the Romanian national team from 1957. At the gymnastics world championships in 1958 , the Romanians won bronze behind the Soviet Union and Czechoslovakia.

In 1960 Ionescu took part in the Olympic Games in Rome. With Sonia Iovan , Elena Leuştean , Emilia Liță , Elena Niculescu and Uta Poreceanu , she won the bronze medal, again behind the Soviet Union and Czechoslovakia. Ionescu also reached place 21 in the individual all-around competition. At their second Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964, Ionescu was sixth with the Romanian team.

After her active career, Ionescu worked at a university. But she also stayed on as a trainer for gymnastics. a. Received from Nadia Comăneci and Aurelia Dobre , and judge.
