Uta Poreceanu

Hildegard Uta Poreceanu , née Hildegard Uta Schlandt , married Hildegard Uta Ionescu , (born November 13, 1936 in Brașov ; † January 27, 2018 in Baden-Baden , Germany ) was a Romanian gymnast .

She did gymnastics first in Brașov and from 1954 at CSU Știința Bucureşti. Since 1953 she was part of the national team, in which she was used in over 30 international tournaments. In 1956 she took part in the Olympic Games in Melbourne, where she was fifth in group gymnastics. In 1959 she married Stefan Poreceanu and took his last name.

Uta Poreceanu achieved her greatest success in 1960 at the Olympic Games in Rome, when she won the bronze medal behind the Soviet Union and Czechoslovakia with Sonia Iovan , Elena Leuştean , Emilia Liță , Elena Niculescu and Atanasia Ionescu . In the individual all-around event , she reached 27th place. She also took part in the 1958 and 1962 World Gymnastics Championships .

After her active career, she divorced and married the surgeon Ludovic Ionescu (* 1928) in 1965. She worked as a university employee until 1979 and then moved to Germany with her second husband.
