The Atchafalaya Swamp Bridge (officially: Louisiana Airborne Memorial Bridge ), also Atchafalaya Swamp Freeway , are two parallel plate bridges made of reinforced concrete in the USA , which lead Interstate 10 between Baton Rouge and Lafayette in Louisiana over the Atchafalaya Basin . With a length of 29.3 km, it is one of the twenty longest bridges in the world.

The two plate bridges run parallel at a distance of about fifty meters, only when crossing the Whiskey Bay Pilot Channel and the Atchafalaya River do the bridges run next to each other. They are used by nearly 25,000 vehicles every day. The structure has two junctions : Connection 127 Whiskey Bay in Iberville Parish and Connection 121 Butte La Rose in St. Martin Parish .

In order to reduce the number of accidents on the bridge, the speed limit has been lowered several times in recent years. Today, a maximum speed of 60 mph for cars and 55 mph for semi- trailers applies , although they are only allowed to use the right-hand lane.

A rest area and visitor center is located at mile 121 approximately in the middle of the bridge, where a monument to which airborne troops 82nd Airborne Division is located. The bridge was renamed the Louisiana Airborne Memorial Bridge on July 10, 1989 in honor of the Airborne Force. The bridge is also known by the local population under the names Long Bridge (German: Lange Brücke ) and Basin Bridge or the nickname Almost Home Bridge (German: almost at home bridge ).
