history

From 1906 to 1908, the Panama City to Dothan railway was built by the Atlanta and St. Andrews Bay Railroad (ASAB). At that time there was a connection in Cottondale to the important main line from Pensacola to Jacksonville , built in 1883 by the Pensacola and Atlantic Railroad , which was then operated by the Louisville and Nashville Railroad .

The Grimes - Abbeville branch was built by the Alabama Midland Railway until 1893 , which was integrated into the Plant System the following year . 1902 went the company together with the Plant System in the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad (ACL). The legal successor of the ACL, CSX Transportation , sold the line in 1989 to the Abbeville-Grimes Railway Company, which was integrated on June 26, 1996 into the Bay Line Railroad, which in turn was part of the Rail Management Corporation . The main route from Dothan to Panama City has been operated by the Bay Line Railroad since it was founded on January 1, 1994. As of June 1, 2005, the company has been owned by Genesee and Wyoming.
