Atlantic. is a 2014 film drama directed by Jan-Willem van Ewijk . The focus is on a young fisherman from Morocco who wants to reach Europe with a surfboard along the Moroccan Atlantic coast. The film had its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival 2014. The theatrical release in Germany was on June 25, 2015.

The young fisherman Fettah lives in a small village on the Moroccan coast and comes into contact with European tourists every year while windsurfing. But every time his new friends leave, they leave behind a void that makes Fettah dream of a life in Europe.

He falls in love with Alexandra, the girlfriend of a Dutch surf friend. Although he knows that she is out of reach for him, a world collapses for him when she leaves. He applies all his strength and embarks on a long journey along the Atlantic coast towards Europe. The wind carries him north on his surfboard, past Casablanca and out to sea.

The film service said that the “unorthodox mixture of surf film and migration story” pays homage “primarily to a romantically intoned, individually motivated longing journey”. While “political contexts hardly play a role”, “a spiritual murmur as a combination of sacred music and voiceover is spreading”, which maneuvers “the sometimes majestic film images to the edge of the pretentious”.
