The Club Atletas Campesinos - probably with full name Club Nacional Atletas Campesinos "Tractores" - is a former Mexican football club that was represented for two years between 1980 and 1982 in the Primera División , the top division of Mexican club football. Thus, it was also the first club in the city of Querétaro to bring top division football to the same. This was later achieved by the art association Cobras de Querétaro, founded by Televisa in 1985 (1986/87 season) and arch-rivals Querétaro FC (1990/91 to 1993/94), with which they merged to form Querétaro FC Gallos Blancos around the turn of the millennium .

history

The Club Atletas Campesinos (Athletic Farm Workers) actually only existed for five years. It was only brought into being in 1977 when the previous student association Club Estudiantes de Querétaro was renamed after it - like city rival Querétaro FC - was acquired by millionaire Armando Presa. Just three years later, the club was promoted to the Primera División. After Atletas had finished bottom of the group in the first season and finished 17th (out of 20 teams) in the overall annual standings, they missed the play-offs by just one point in the second season (1981/82) and finished in the overall annual standings a respectable eleventh rank. But at the end of the season, the club's license for the first division was sold to Tampico-Madero FC . It came to the separation from the previous sponsor Armando Presa and the renewed renaming of the association - this time in Gallos Blancos de la UAQ . This not only separated from its previously misleading term “farm worker” and made it recognizable again as an academic association by referring to the Autonomous University of Querétaro, but also incorporated the old nickname of its arch rival.

This team failed in the summer of 1987 in the promotion games against the university club from Ciudad Victoria , the UAT Correcaminos . After both teams drew three times, the UAQ Gallos Blancos lost 4-2 on penalties. Around 2000, the Gallos Blancos de la UAQ merged with their previous city rival Querétaro FC to form Querétaro FC Gallos Blancos (see there) .
