Atokos ( Greek Άτοκος ( f. Sg. ), Literally 'barren, unborn' because of the barren vegetation) is an island in the Ionian Sea , around nine kilometers northeast of Ithaca . It extends over around 4.5 km², rises to 334 meters above sea level and belongs to the territory of the municipality of Ithaca.
The mountainous island has a few beaches in small bays and grottoes in the otherwise rocky coast. Goats live on the island, but it is no longer permanently inhabited. A house and a small chapel are the only buildings. The island is privately owned.
