distribution

This species is endemic to the area around Srbsko in the Bohemian Karst (Central Bohemia, Czech Republic). There are around 200 copies at 10 locations.

habitat

The unusual whitebeam grows in partially shaded oak forests, on the edges of forests and in the edges of semi-arid / dry lawns. It can also be found in abandoned quarries and prehistoric settlements. Sorbus eximia grows together with other whitebeams such as the service tree ( Sorbus torminalis ) and the Danube whitebeam ( Sorbus danubialis ).

The species was also planted as a street tree between Řevnice and Mořina.

Systematics

The extraordinary whitebeam was first described by Miloslav Kovanda in 1984. The type epithet eximia means extraordinary.
