The ASL is housed in the building complex of the Altengroden primary and secondary school and is organizationally affiliated with the Jade University . It has been headed by Per Thieme since August 2012. The teachers involved in the technology and nature learning location are delegated to the Jade University by the state school authorities. The place of learning receives financial support from its own development association , from business sponsors and foundations, and mainly from various projects.

history

The extracurricular learning location “Education for Technology and Nature” was created as a sub-project of the certified EXPO 2000 project “Which school does the future of our world need?” Of the Lower Saxony Ministry of Education .

After a three-year construction phase, the elaboration and refinement of the concept, the ASL was completed on May 4, 2000, in time for the “Expo am Meer” in Wilhelmshaven. Initially, the learning location moved into buildings on Lake Banter. Here stood to the above. Areas with extensive specialist rooms that are unusually equipped for a normal school. In March 2005 they moved to the current premises in the Altengroden primary and secondary school.

In July 2009 the ASL took over the legal form of a non-profit sponsoring association and has since been called Lernort Technik und Natur eV

On November 24, 2009, Erich Welschehold, then head of the learning center, received the Klaus von Klitzing Prize . The nationwide award is given every year to a particularly committed teacher in the field of natural sciences.

Goal setting

Based on the motto of the EXPO 2000 in Hanover “People, Nature, Technology”, the learning location offers children, young people and teachers the opportunity to deal with scientific and technical issues in an action-oriented manner.

The offer of the ASL is aimed at schools that want to give their pupils from grades 2 to 11 the opportunity to gain learning experiences outside of school. Especially in the age up to the seventh grade, the learning location supports the children's enormous thirst for research with its practical learning. 70 schools in north-west Germany have already contractually agreed to work with the ASL and have integrated offers from the ASL into their curricula. The emphasis on the orientation towards action and the practical confrontation also enables pupils with weak motivation to gain new access to learning.
