Auður Auðuns
Auður Auðuns (born February 18, 1911 in Ísafjörður , † October 19, 1999 in Reykjavík ) was an Icelandic lawyer and politician ( Independence Party ).
Life
Auður Auðuns' parents were Althing MP Jón Auðunn Jónsson and Margrét Guðrún Jónsdóttir. After graduating from high school Menntaskólinn í Reykjavík in 1929, she began her law studies at the University of Iceland , which she completed in 1935 as the first woman in Iceland. A year later she married the judge Hermann Jónsson of the Icelandic Supreme Court , with whom she had four children.
Auður Auðuns was from November 19, 1959 to October 5, 1960 together with Geir Hallgrímsson mayor of Reykjavík , also as the first woman. She was also the first woman in Iceland to hold the post of minister ( isl. Ráðherra ) when she was Minister of Justice from October 10, 1970 until the summer of 1971. From 1959 to 1974 she was a member of the Althing for what was then the constituency of Reykjavík. In 1975 Auður Auðuns chaired the Icelandic delegation to the UN Women's Conference in Mexico City .
On August 18, 1961, she was awarded the Icelandic Order of the Falcon ( Stórriddarakross , Commander ).
