Aubrey Ellwood

Air Marshal Sir Aubrey Beauclerk Ellwood , KCB , DSO (born July 3, 1897 in Oakham , England - † December 20, 1992 ) was an officer in the Royal Air Force .

Life

Ellwood attended Marlborough College and joined the Royal Naval Air Service in 1916 . During his service as a fighter pilot in World War I , he scored ten kills and was named two-time flying ace. He was then awarded the DSO .

During World War II , he served as the deputy director of bombing operations. From January 1943 he commanded the rank of Air Officer the No. 18 Group of the Royal Air Force and became Senior Air Staff Officer at Coastal Command Headquarters in March 1944 . He ended his tenure as Director-General of Personnel .

After the war, he became Air Officer Commanding in Chief of Bomber Command . In January 1952, he retired from the rank of Air Officer Commanding in Chief of Transport Command .
