RAF Transport Command
The RAF Transport Command was an air transport command of the British Royal Air Force (RAF) between 1943 and 1967 and was responsible for air transport .
history
The RAF Transport Command was formed on March 25, 1943 from the previously independent Ferry Command , founded on July 20, 1941 from the previous Atlantic Ferry Service . The Ferry Command itself was established on March 25, 1943 at No. 45 (Atlantic Ferry) Group renamed. The first commander of the RAF Transport Command was then Air Chief Marshal Frederick Bowhill , who had previously been in command of Ferry Command since July 20, 1941 .
On August 1, 1967, the RAF Transport Command was renamed Air Support Command ( RAF Air Support Command ) and the previous commander of the RAF Transport Command , Air Marshal Thomas Prickett , was the first commanding general of the RAF Air Support Command .

The RAF Transport Command was usually subordinate to a Lieutenant General ( Air Marshal ) as Commanding General AOC-in-C (Air Officer Commander-in-Chief) according to today's NATO rank code OF-8 .
