Aubrey FitzClarence, 4th Earl of Munster , (born June 7, 1862 in Kensington , London, † January 1, 1928 ) was a British peer and great-grandson of King William IV and his mistress Dorothea Jordan .

Life

Aubrey FitzClarence was the son of William FitzClarence, 2nd Earl of Munster (1824-1901) and Wilhelmina Kennedy-Erskine (1830-1906). His parents were cousins ​​and he was thus the great-grandson of William IV through both parents. His paternal grandfather George FitzClarence, 1st Earl of Munster and his maternal grandmother Lady Augusta FitzClarence were siblings.

Aubrey was born the fourth son of nine children. His two older brothers Edward and Lionel died before they came of age. Edward died at age 14 and Lionel as a toddler. Geoffrey FitzClarence, 3rd Earl of Munster , the third brother inherited the Earldom and the other titles when his father died in 1901.

When the third earl died childless nine months later on February 2, 1902, Aubrey inherited the titles of Earl of Munster , Viscount FitzClarence and Baron Tewkesbury . Aubrey held the office of Gentleman Usher-in-Ordinary to Queen Victoria from 1885 to 1901 and from King Edward VII from July 23, 1901 to February 7, 1902 .

Aubrey died unmarried at the age of 65. His nephew Geoffrey FitzClarence succeeded him as 5th Earl of Munster.
