Auchtermuchty [/ ˈɔxtər ˈmʌxtɪ /] ( Scottish Gaelic Uachdar Mucadaidh; originally Uachdarmuc from Gaelic Uachdar-muic ) is a town in the Scottish Council Area Fife . It is located about 11 km north-northwest of Glenrothes and 18 km southeast of Perth . The A91 runs through Auchtermuchty . In 2011 Auchtermuchty had 2093 inhabitants.
Under King James V , Auchtermuchty was made Royal Burgh . In the 18th and 19th centuries there were textile and wood processing companies in Auchtermuchty. Between 1829 and 1926, Auchtermuchty was the location of the nationally important Auchtermuchty whiskey distillery .
