history

Audi do Brasil was founded in 1997. At the same time, construction began on a plant in São José dos Pinhais near Curitiba , which was to be used by Volkswagen and Audi. The inauguration ceremony with the Brazilian President Fernando Henrique Cardoso took place on January 18, 1999.

The Audi A3 was the first vehicle model to be produced from 1999 to 2006 , at least initially from CKD kits. Production was stopped due to lack of profitability.

In 2000, Audi also went with Senna Import Participações Ltda. of the Formula 1 racing driver Ayrton Senna, who died in an accident in 1994 in Ingolstadt established the joint venture Audi Senna Ltda. a. Audi participated with 51 percent. Five years later, Audi founded Distribuidora de Veículos Ltda with Audi Brasil. established its own sales subsidiary in Brazil and took over the remaining 49% of the joint venture.

The production of Audi models resumed in 2015 in São José dos Pinhais. After the Audi A3, production of the Audi Q3 began in 2016. Both models are also manufactured here as an ethanol version.
