Audrey Diwan

Audrey Diwan (* 1980 ) is a French film director , screenwriter , journalist and publisher .

life and career

Audrey Diwan is of Lebanese descent. As a teenager she suffered from bulimia , at the same time she became enthusiastic about literature and began to write herself. She worked as a journalist for the women's magazines Technikart, Glamor and Stylist , wrote a column for Paris Première ( Ça balance à Paris ) and was active as a novelist ( La Fabrication d'un mensonge, De l'autre côté de l'été ). Diwan also worked as a publisher for Denoël.

In 2021 she won the main prize at the Venice Film Festival for her feature film L'événement with the Golden Lion . The abortion drama, which is based on the novel of the same name by Annie Ernaux , also brought her the ARCA CinemaGiovani Award, Brian Award and FIPRESCI Prize .

Diwan lives in Paris . She was married to filmmaker Cédric Jimenez , with whom she worked as a screenwriter on four of his films. The marriage had two children.
