The Auenbach is a brook in Saxony which , after a roughly 16 km long west-north-west run along with its upper course Klosterbach, flows into the Zwickauer Mulde from the right in the Terpitzsch district of Colditz in the Leipzig district .

Upper course

The cloister stream rises from a settlement group of Aschershain on the eastern edge of the forest area Fröhne at the outlet of a small chain of ponds. He initially flows around the southwest through the partly populated forest area, then moves westward shortly through the hallway and then longer by Geringswalde where he km long in about 0.6, accumulated great city pond , just by the inhabitants of the city Großteich called , opens, from which the Auenbach then flows away. It is about 4.8 km long to the point where it flows into the pond.

According to some maps, the Auenbach begins above the large city pond, which would make the Klosterbach only about 3.6 km long. But this does not correspond to the language used on site.

course

The Auenbach is the outflow of the large city pond in Geringswalde, which it has left via a weir and an artificial waterfall since Leipziger Strasse was relocated in the 1930s. On its way it first flows in an approximately north-north-westerly direction through a wooded valley, called Auental or the Aue for short , and turns at the Rinnmühle in a west-north-westerly direction. On the way he takes on several other streams, including from left Jordan Bach and Taubenbach, from the right to the basement Bach, the Harthaubach, the Böhm Bach and finally across from Lastau the springing near the town of the same Erlbach . Böhmbach and especially Erlbach are by far its longest tributaries. It flows into the lower Zwickau Mulde from the right in the Terpitzsch district of Colditz and opposite Möseln after about 10.3 km from its origin at the pond outlet.

Along its entire length, the creek is accompanied by roads of local importance or roads a short distance away.

Mill locations

The Reichenmühle near Koltzschen

The Auenbach used to drive several water mills on its course : the Damm-Mühle, which was demolished in 1900, the Tränkenmühle, the Herrenmühle, the Rinnmühle, the Herfurthsmühle, which burned down in the 1920s, and the Reichenmühle. All were grinders. Only the Herrenmühle is still in operation, but with an electric motor drive. For better utilization, the impact water for the drinking mill was channeled into a mill ditch behind the buildings at An der Halbige and then over the cellar stream, before it was fed back to the Auenbach after the mill's water wheel was driven. There was an open-air swimming pool at the Herfurthsmühle in the 1920s .

Individual evidence

  1. a b c Length measured on: Saxony Atlas of the Free State of Saxony ( notes )
  2. The Saxony Atlas of the Free State of Saxony ( information ) lets the Auenbach begin above in Geringswalde between the entrance to the town and the Great City Pond at the section mentioned here in the article Klosterbach , perhaps at the inlet of the stream along the Eichberg road. This would extend it by the 0.6 km of the large city pond and at the expense of the monastery brook another 1.2 km. However, the section above the large pond is known locally as the Klosterbach.
