The Auer Dult is a traditional Dult in Munich . It takes place three times a year on Mariahilfplatz in the Au district to the east / right of the Isar and lasts nine days. The first dult of the year, the so-called Maidult , begins on the Saturday before May 1st . The Jakobidult begins on the Saturday after Jakobi (July 25th), and the Kirchweihdult begins on the Saturday before the Kirchweih (third Sunday in October).

Every year around 300,000 people visit the Auer Dult.

history

The Jakobidult was first held in 1310 at Anger , today's Sankt-Jakobs-Platz . From 1791 onwards it took place on Kaufinger and Neuhauser Strasse . In 1796, Elector Karl Theodor granted the Munich suburb of Au east of the Isar the right to hold a dult twice a year. The name Auer Dult comes from this time . Since 1905, with the exception of the war and post-war years 1943–1946 , the Dult has taken place three times a year and lasts nine days each, from Saturday to Sunday of the following week. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic , the May and Jakobidults were canceled for the first time since 1946.

Exhibitors from Munich and the surrounding area can be found on the art and antiques market. They offer antiquarian books and everyday objects. This market area was sung about by Fred Rauch in his song Auer Dult (Das Münchner Jahr).

The Auer Dult is considered the largest tableware market in Europe. Porcelain and ceramic goods are offered at numerous stands (sales stands). There are also other household accessories, natural remedies and clothing.

Around three hundred traders and showmen take part in the Auer Dult, which is now not only a market but also a folk festival . There are nostalgic rides next to the Standl area. These include a chain carousel , children's carousels , a swing boat , a bumper car and shooting galleries.

From 1925 to the end of 2019, the Koppenhöfer family operated the Russenrad , a small Ferris wheel, on the Dult . The ride was a Russian swing made by the Gundelwein carousel factory in Wutha, Thuringia , which was set in motion by a saltwater starter.

Snack bars and three beer tents with their beer gardens offer Bavarian specialties.
