Auf der Höhe is an Austrian silent film melodrama from 1916 by Luise Kolm and Jakob Fleck .
action
Gregor Stark is a poor guy. In order to significantly improve his living conditions, he comes up with the idea of kidnapping Helene, the forester's daughter. In order to get “to the top” of life, that is, to the very top, he has no scruples from now on. Gregor gets a position as a diurnist at the factory owner Böllmann , then rises to the position of authorized signatory with his recklessness and then also puts his own boss under pressure: Gregor has learned a secret through secret eavesdropping that could have serious consequences for Böllmann. So he forces the manufacturer to give him the hand of his daughter Paula. But she is not at all happy about her forced future, because Paula loves Stephan Günther, her childhood friend.
On the eve of his marriage, Stark first wants to free himself from Helene, who has taken a liking to the rough guy since her violent abduction and now doesn't want to let go of him. During the heated discussion as a result of Gregor's attempted separation, there was a tussle in which Helene fell into the depths with the fragile balcony railing. She plops into the lake below and drowns. Gregor then fell into madness and at his own wedding party smashed a mirror in front of all the guests in which he believed he could see the dead Helene. Then the blow hits him and Stark falls down the stairs before he lies dead at the feet of his bride.
