Liane Haid (born August 16, 1895 in Vienna ; † November 28, 2000 in Wabern near Bern ) was an Austrian actress and singer.

Life and career

She came from a Bavarian aristocratic family and her first name was actually Juliane; her sister Grit Haid also became a film actress. Liane Haid's stage career began as a ballet dancer at the theater. She also enjoyed extensive vocal training, which was to be of great use to her later. In 1915 she made her film debut with Jakob Fleck . Eventually the director Richard Oswald noticed her and offered her the title role in the silent film Lady Hamilton in 1921 . After another leading role in Lucrezia Borgia , also still without a sound, she should go to Hollywood . But since she was now married to Baron Friedrich Haymerle, the son of the former Austrian Prime Minister Heinrich Karl von Haymerle , she turned down this offer.

Her first sound film was The Immortal Scoundrel , which was followed by many more. Among other things, she was the partner of Hans Albers , Willi Forst and Gustav Fröhlich . In the film Das Lied ist aus , she sang the hit that then became famous: Adieu my little guard officer (1930). One of the most famous films was You Shouldn't Go To Sleep Unkissed from 1936.

In 1937 her second marriage to the Berlin lawyer and actor Hans Somborn also failed . But when she was offered fewer and fewer roles in 1937, she married the Swiss doctor Dr. Carl Spycher and accompanied him for many years on his research trips through the tropics. Due to her marriage, she lived in Switzerland from then on. After Spycher and Haid separated after 30 years, she lived with her son Pierre from his second marriage in Wabern.

Grave at Dornbacher Friedhof

After the war, Liane Haid only played in one film. After the Krug zum Grünen Kranze (1953), she officially ended her career. In 1969 she received the gold film tape for her services to German film . She died at the age of 105 in her home in Wabern. Her honorary grave is in the Dornbacher Friedhof (group 36, crypt 9) in Vienna . In 2008 the Liane-Haid-Weg in Vienna- Hernals (17th district) was named after her.
