The double suicide is an Austro-Hungarian silent film from 1917. Directed by Jakob Fleck and Luise Kolm .
action
Poldi, the son of the Leutner farmer, loves Agerl, the daughter of the poor small farmer Stauderer. But the two cannot come together freely and openly because, as with Romeo and Juliet, the stubborn old men have been feuding for half an eternity. Both fathers consequently refuse to give their consent to the marriage. Quite a few attempts to achieve a reconciliation for the sake of the two young lovers always failed at the last moment, and the contingent that had already been ordered had to be canceled immediately. At some point it becomes too colorful for Agerl and Poldi. When the young man hears his father reading from the newspaper about a double suicide, he has a brilliant idea. He copied the suicide note printed in the newspaper and instructed the grocer's wife to send it to his father soon.
He and the Agerl decide to move out in the hope that their two producers will finally come to their senses. The Leutnerbauer learns from the letter that the young fortune is planning to take her own life or has already taken it and informs all villagers. The Stauderer also learns of the call, and so half the community goes in search of the two allegedly suicidal people. But Poldi and Agerl don't even think about parting their lives prematurely, but have meanwhile hid in a half-ruined dairy hut and swore eternal love there. When you finally find her there, everything that has happened is wasted, and the two paternal arguers finally give their consent to the wedding.

criticism
“The staging of the play by Luise Kolm and J. Fleck is the best imaginable and it was through this that the right effect of the comedy was achieved. Among the actors, Liane Heid should be mentioned above all, who was a very pretty farmer dirndl Agerl, fresh and natural, as if she had been brought straight from a farm, then the two farmers Leutner (Mr. Ehmann) and Stauderer (Mr. Baumgartner), who keep getting into quarrel and quarreling, but being good and honest and last but not least…. Mr. Sekler, who gave the young suitor Poldl with original humor and freshness, all offered an impeccable performance. "
