Hans Rhoden (born January 11, 1882 in Vienna ; † July 4, 1931 there ) was an Austrian actor and director .

Life

Hans Rhoden began his career in 1906 at the 'Deutsches Theater der Palme' in the (then) Russian capital St. Petersburg . In 1907 he moved to Wiener Neustadt , in 1908 to Pilsen and in 1910 to the Berlin revue stage 'Folies Caprice'. In 1913, the theater in der Josefstadt, under the direction of Josef Jarno, brought Rhoden back to his hometown of Vienna.

At the same time, the actor began his extensive work in front of the camera. His subject was that of the youthful charmer and lover. Rhoden played gallants of all kinds, young aristocrats like the baron in the grotesque “ Charly, the wonder monkey ” and dashing military men like Lieutenant Falk in the war propaganda “ Mit Gott für Kaiser und Reich ”, but also älpic characters like the Wurzensepp in the early Anzengruber -Film adaptation of " The Pastor of Kirchfeld ". Above all, the Wiener Kunstfilm with the directors Jakob Julius and Luise Fleck regularly cast Hans Rhoden. At the end of the war in 1918, Rhoden switched behind the camera and worked briefly as a director.

A serious motorcycle accident threw him off course in the 1920s. Hans Rhoden had to give up the acting profession and fell into deep depression. In the end, the actor, who was also a member of the board of the German-Austrian Stage Association, committed suicide.
