August Adolf Focke (born January 1, 1817 in Leipzig ; † September 3, 1885 there ) was a German businessman and founder .

Life

August Adolf Focke was born to August Wilhelm Focke (1782–1822) and Henriette Caroline Wendler (1788–1866).

At the end of the 1870s, Focke donated a large part of the assets he had acquired as a merchant to the city of Leipzig: 120,000 marks to set up a support fund at the city hospital, 30,000 marks for the poor institution and 500,000 marks to set up the “Focke Foundation”.

Honors

In 1908 the Fockestrasse in the Leipziger Südvorstadt was named after him. The adjacent, wooded, rubble, Bauernwiesen is commonly known as the “ Fockeberg ”, where the Fockeberg run takes place twice a year and the Prix ​​de Tacot soap box race once a year .
