August Albert (chemist)

August Ferdinand Albert (born November 11, 1882 in Constantinople , † September 4, 1951 in Munich ) was a German chemist and university professor.

Life

He was the son of railway director W. Albert and GF de Wolff. After attending grammar schools in Hadamar and Frankfurt am Main , he studied at the University of Munich . In 1914 he completed his habilitation at the Technical University in Munich. At the chemistry department he worked as a private lecturer and associate professor for organic chemical technology. He specialized in dye chemistry and chemotherapy. In 1937 he was dismissed from university because of his Jewish relatives .

After the Second World War he became director of the laboratory. In 1946 he was appointed full professor for applied chemistry and prorector of the University of Munich.

August Albert joined the CSU and in 1946 became deputy chairman of the cultural policy committee and member of the committee for international relations.
