August Boltz
August Constantin Boltz (born September 26, 1819 in Breslau ; † May 1, 1907 in Darmstadt ) was a German language expert, language teacher and translator.
Life
Boltz attended high school in Breslau and devoted himself to the merchant class. In addition, he conducted language studies and in 1839 became a tutor at the commercial academy in Hamburg , later a private tutor in an aristocratic family in Saint Petersburg , in which position he traveled almost all over Europe. In 1842 he entered the Russian civil service as a teacher at the General Staff Academy in St. Petersburg. In 1845 he received his doctorate from the University of Jena . After his return home he got a job as a Russian teacher at the War Academy in Berlin in 1852 , was appointed professor in 1862, but resigned from his post after two years for health reasons. He was also an English and Spanish teacher at the naval cadet school from 1858 to 1864. From 1864 to 1868 he lived in Frankfurt am Main, 1868 to 1875 in Wiesbaden, 1878/79 in Bonn, 1885 to 1887 in Freiburg im Breisgau and from 1888 in Darmstadt. August Boltz died in Jugenheim near Darmstadt (today the Seeheim-Jugenheim municipality ). He may have been on a journey there. Only two months after him, his wife Clara, née. Schulte (* 1824) in Darmstadt. Both were not buried in Darmstadt.
Works
Boltz made himself particularly well known for his new course in the Russian language according to the Robertsonian method , which was followed by grammars of the English, French, Italian and Spanish languages according to the same method, which he later also added with a textbook of German and modern Greek edited in Russian.
