Heinrich Christian Wilhelm August Helms (born April 20, 1847 in Salzderhelden , † June 22, 1920 in Harburg ) was a senator , businessman and founder of the museum association for the city and district of Harburg .

Life

In 1876 August Helms became the owner of a coal and timber business . In 1888 he traded flour and animal feed in a Hamburg office throughout Europe . In 1897 he acquired the Harburg Castle Mill, which was built by Duke Otto I in 1527. August Helms was a board member and founder of numerous associations, such as the Harburg citizens' association from 1894. In 1898 he set the course for the future Archaeological Museum Hamburg - Helms-Museum with the establishment of the museum association for the city and district of Harburg . August Helms was buried in the old Harburg cemetery after his death .

Honors

In 1950 the Helmsweg in Hamburg-Harburg was named after August Helms.
