August Huyssen (born April 29, 1824 in Nijmegen ; † December 2, 1903 in Bonn ) was a high-ranking Prussian mining official.

Life

He attended high school in Kleve . Huyssen completed a probationary year for the career of a Prussian mountain official in Essen-Werden . This was followed by a three-year theoretical and three-year practical training. He studied camera sciences (mining) and philosophy in Halle and Berlin , where in 1845 he co-founded the old Berlin fraternity Germania . In 1850 he worked as a mountain assessor in the Witten mining district . This was followed by a brief activity at the Oberbergamt in Dortmund .

Before 1856 Huyssen was transferred to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Public Works . There he worked in the department for mining, metallurgy and saltworks. Among other things, he was editor-in-chief of the magazine for mining, smelting and saltworks. He himself published several articles there.

In 1856 he took over the management of the Düren Mining Authority with the rank of mountain councilor . As Oberbergrat he moved in 1861 to the Oberbergamt Breslau . Promoted to chief miner in 1884, he took over the management of the ministerial department for mining, metallurgy and saltworks. He was at the head of the Prussian mining administration. He retired in 1891 and was elected a member of the Leopoldina in 1893 . He was a member of the Society of German Natural Scientists and Doctors and the Thuringian-Saxon Society for Geography.

He represented the Mansfeld lake and mountain district between 1882 and 1888 in the Prussian House of Representatives . Huyssen belonged to the free conservative party .
