August Jilek

August Jilek (born November 2, 1949 in Mitterdorf im Mürz Valley , Austria ) is a German theologian and university professor .

Life

After finishing school, Jilek studied Roman Catholic theology . After completing his studies, Jilek worked for many years in pastoral practice as a pastoral consultant in the dioceses of Basel and Munich-Freising . Jilek was a professor at the Catholic University of Applied Sciences in Mainz from 1984 to 1990 and has been a professor at the chair for liturgical science at the University of Regensburg since 1990 , but since 2004 without a church teaching permit. Jilek is also a permanent deacon of the Mainz diocese . He is married and has two sons.

Act

Jilek's work and research focus on liturgical aspects of Roman Catholic theology. He is committed to advising priests critical of the official church . Jilek is also involved in the Aufhausen Liturgy Days, where in collaboration with the Aufhausen Institute for Pastoral Liturgy e. V. (A • I • P • L) Priests, deacons, parish and pastoral officers, religious teachers and all interested laypeople receive further training. Jilek runs the liturgy publisher AE Jilek .

Withdrawal of the church license to teach

After a dispute with the Regensburg Bishop Gerhard Ludwig Müller , Jilek was withdrawn from the diocese of Regensburg in 2004 because Jilek had considered leaving the Catholic Church in a letter. On November 4, 2009, the episcopal press office of the diocese of Regensburg declared that Jilek could not speak for the Catholic Church due to "lack of insight into the basic data of the Catholic faith".
