August Kageler

August Kageler (* 1877 in Altenhagen I ; † June 19, 1965 in Gehrden ) was a German teacher , author and local researcher .

Life

In Gehrden, a path was named after August Kageler

August Kageler was born near the Deister in the early days of the German Empire . He worked from 1897 to 1939 as a teacher at the elementary school in Gehrden. During this period he also taught from 1908 to 1934 at the guild school of the "Mixed Craftsmen Guild of Gehrden and the Surrounding Area". In 1930 Kageler was appointed deputy principal .

Musically he was active from 1909 to 1949 as organist of the Protestant church in Gehrden, for which he founded and directed a church choir.

In the middle of World War II , August Kagler began building and setting up the Gehrden City Archives in 1941, which today contains a large number of his elaborations.

As an author, Kageler emerged with books about the former Linden district and a historical summary about Gehrden. On December 30, 1957, he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit for his services to research into local history . On October 18, 1960 he was granted honorary citizenship of the city of Gehrden for his services as a teacher and local researcher .

As a photographer, August Kageler left a total of 286 photos in the image archive of the Hanover region .
