August Knecht (born July 22, 1866 in Herxheim near Landau / Pfalz , † February 11, 1932 in Munich ) was a German Catholic theologian .

Career

Knecht was born as the son of the farmer's husband Adrian Knecht and Maria Theresia Raßenfoss. He attended the humanistic grammar school in Speyer and studied law and theology in Munich and Würzburg. He completed both subjects with a doctorate. In August 1890 he was ordained a priest in Speyer. After working as a pastor, in 1900 he became associate professor for church law, basics of Bavarian constitutional and administrative law, pedagogy and didactics in Bamberg. In 1907 he also accepted a teaching position for church history.

In 1911 he followed a call to the University of Strasbourg . After the end of the war he was expelled. From 1919 he was honorary professor for canon law at the University of Munich .

He was a member of the Catholic student associations KDStV Aenania Munich and KDStV Markomannia Würzburg .
