August Meier-Böke

August Friedrich Heinrich Meier-Böke (born October 17, 1901 in Langenholzhausen , † October 31, 1956 in Detmold ) was a German teacher and local researcher in the Lippe area .

Life

August Meier-Böke was born on October 17, 1901, the second of four sons on a farm in Langenholzhausen. In 1921 he made his Abitur in Bielefeld . From 1922 to 1923 he trained at the teachers' college in Rinteln , which he finished with the first state examination as a teacher. Between 1923 and 1925 he studied, first in Darmstadt, then in Göttingen, Hamburg and Münster, various subjects from the natural sciences and humanities; he did not graduate. From 1924 he began to work as a writer. In 1928 he married his wife Emma, ​​née Süvern. The two had five children. In 1927 he started teaching at the Rector's School in Hohenhausento work. In 1937 he moved to Detmold with his family. Here he was first a teacher at the boys 'school, then later at the girls' school. In 1939 he received his doctorate in prehistory and early history . Throughout his life he had to struggle with illnesses again and again. Meier-Böke died on October 31, 1956 in Detmold at the age of only 55.

In addition to his work as a teacher, Meier-Böke was a passionate local researcher. He dealt with a wide variety of topics that had to do with the history, customs and nature of the Lippe region. He wrote several books and innumerable articles about the results of his research, which were published in daily newspapers and popular calendars.
