August Osterrieth

Jacob Ludwig Daniel August Osterrieth (born February 11, 1808 in Frankfurt am Main ; † April 2, 1868 there ) was a printer's owner, publisher and politician .

August Osterrieth was the son of the senior of the Frankfurt Chamber of Commerce Samuel Friedrich Osterrieth and his wife Elise Osterrieth nee D'Orville . He ran a book printing, lithographic and bookbinding business in the Free City of Frankfurt at the address Zeil 116. In 1833 his mother, Elise Osterrieth, née D'Orville, who was widowed at the time, bought the bookstore of his brother-in-law Wilhelm Ludwig Wesché and transferred it to her son. With this, Osterrieth expanded its field of business. Among other things, he was editor of the Frankfurter Postzeitung . From 1856 to 1861 he was also the owner of the GF Kettembeil publishing house (Frankfurt am Main).

Osterrieth married Emma, ​​née Hohlberg (1811-1870), on August 26, 1833 in Leipzig. The marriage resulted in four children (August, Elisabeth, Edouard and Jenny). The sons Edouard Osterrieth (1848–1901) and August Osterrieth-Laurin continued the paternal printing company.

Osterrieth was also politically active. He was a member from 1856 to 1860 and vice-president of the legislative body of the Free City of Frankfurt in 1860 . From 1857 until the end of the free city in 1866 he was a member of the permanent citizens' representation .
