August Martin Silber (born July 30, 1895 in Kehtna , Estonia Governorate , † April 13, 1942 in Sverdlovsk , Soviet Union ) was an Estonian football player and referee .

Career

In his football career August Silber played from 1922 to 1923 for Tallinna JK . In the same period he completed three international matches for the Estonian national football team . He gave the debut in September 1922 in Riga against the hosts Latvia . He completed two other missions in the 5-0 away win in Kaunas against Lithuania , as well as the last international match in July 1923 against the Latvian selection in the Kalevi Stadium in Tallinn . Later he was to be active as a football referee for some time .

August Silber was the last of four children born to Mart Silber (1860–1932) and his wife Liiso (née Treimann). The first two children Liisa Pauline and Michael died at the age of one and three years. On October 3, 1924, at the age of 29, August married Ida Kuusberg. The marriage remained childless. August Silber was the younger brother of the Estonian footballer, Otto Silber (1893-1940) who was also executed by the Soviet occupation authorities. In contrast to his brother, who established the surname Silber in Sillapere, August kept the name of the German-speaking minority .

With the Soviet occupation of Estonia, which was characterized by terror and mass deportations against the Estonian population, Silber was arrested and executed in the Sverdlovsk POW camp .
