The Augustians Bathurst (also: Augustinians ) was a football club from Bathurst , the capital (which was renamed after Banjul in 1973 ) of the then West African British colony of Gambia .
history
The club played in the highest league in Gambian football and was there when the league was founded in 1940. They were particularly successful in the 1950s and 1960s, with the championship won four times. Most recently, they won the First Division championship in the 1986/1987 season.
In the 1995 season they played in the GFA League First Division . They finished the season in 9th place and were relegated to the GFA League Second Division . In the following season made the promotion again, but could only remain in the First Division for one season and were relegated back to the Second Division. In the 1998/1999 season they finished in 9th place, whereupon they had to relegate to the GFA League Third Division .
In the final of the first cup competition, which was held in the Box Bar Stadium on July 5, 1952 , the Augustians lost 2-1 to Gambia United . In the 1960s, the club won the cup competition two more times.
The Augustians were invited to the African Cup of Champions Clubs 1967 and the African Cup of Champions Clubs 1968 ; they withdrew their participation in this competition before the preliminary round game.
It is not documented when the association was dissolved.
